Application effect evaluation of optimal feeding process for patients with dysphagia after stroke based on HFMEA model (#328)

Background To optimize the feeding process of patients with ischemic stroke complicated with dysphagia by Healthcare Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (HFMEA), and to analyze its application effect.

Methods 33 patients with ischemic stroke complicated with dysphagia admitted to the Department of Neurology of our hospital from July to September 2023 were selected as the control group, and 33 patients with ischemic stroke complicated with dysphagia admitted from October to December 2023 were selected as the observation group. The control group was given routine nursing care, and the observation group was given feeding optimization process based on HFMEA mode for patients with swallowing disorder after ischemic stroke. The incidence of aspiration, the screening rate of swallowing function, the accuracy rate of evaluation, the scores of nurses' swallowing disorder management knowledge and behavior were compared between the two groups.

Results Compared with the control group, the incidence of aspiration of patients in the observation group was significantly decreased, the screening rate of swallowing function, the accuracy rate of evaluating swallowing disorders, the scores of nurses' swallowing disorder management knowledge and behavior were significantly increased, and the differences were statistically significant (P< 0.05).

Conclusion The application of HFMEA mode can effectively prevent the occurrence of failure mode in all aspects of eating in patients with swallowing disorder of ischemic stroke, ensure the safe eating of patients, and significantly reduce the incidence of aspiration pneumonia.
